Investigating the origins of ethnology
Like other social sciences, anthropology has a relatively recent history.
As an academic discipline, it developed in the late 19th century and early 20th century. There were, however, important forerunners in historiography, geography, travel writing, jurisprudence and philosophy, and how we write ‘the history of anthropology’ is not straightforward.
