Ethnography is central to anthropology and a key character that distinguishes the discipline from the other social sciences. As we learnt last week, drawing on Malinowski’s classic work in the Trobriand Islands, anthropology places great emphasis on ethnographic fieldwork as the most important source of new knowledge about societies and cultures. But, what is ethnography?
